Hyderabad: Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat ordered an in-depth investigation into the LPG cylinder mishap at Kapra on Friday. He visited the incident spot and said that based on primary report of the Clues team, after collecting evidences from the spot, it was determined that the fire mishap happened due to leakage in the cylinder.

Taking into account the intensity and damage caused by the blast, the police is suspecting that as the owner of the house Mohan Lal Choudhary is a jewellery shop owner, he might have stored the chemicals in the house. The Clues team earlier conducted searches in the damaged house.

They found that Mohan Lal received a HP gas cylinder on December 28 and has two cylinders in his house - one on the first floor and another one is at the ground floor. The leakage happened in the night hours at the first floor and the gas spread in the house. When in the morning, one of the family members lit the gas, an explosion took place and the house got damaged completely. The household articles and the debris fell on road at a distance of 500 metres to one kilometre in all directions. The electric poles fell, and one person died on the spot and eight others sustained injuries, five houses including a hospital building wall and windows, glasses got damaged.

Police said the people escaped narrowly from a major accident as the blast occurred in the early morning hours. The lane where the incident took place is the main way for hundreds of people to go to other main roads. Police and Fire Service officials after reaching the spot, stopped the power supply and doused the fire to minimise the intensity of the blast. Due to the unpredicted damage in all directions, police called Forensic Science Laboratory experts and asked the Clues teams to investigate the mishap.
