Hyderabad: In its effort to earn additional revenue, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has proposed to establish mini theatres in 23 bus depots across the State. This is to supplement the revenue being earned from bus operations.

As per the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the TSRTC has been focusing on increasing the revenue. It has decided to utilise the vast open lands in the State by commercially exploiting them by establishing petrol pumps and mini theatres.

The officials have identified 23 places in the State suitable for setting up of mini theatres. The sites identified include bus stations at Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Kothagudem, Kalluru, Sattupally, Dharmapuri, Huzurabad, Shadnagar, Armoor, Bodhan and Vikarabad. Apart from the bus stations, the other places identified for mini theatres include Chevella, Tandur, Station Ghanpur, Kodada, Nagarjunsagar, Sangareddy, Narsapur, Jadcharla, Peddapally, Sircilla, Karimnagar and Nirmal.

The Corporation has 97 bus depots and 358 bus stations and is operating about 10,504 buses of different types, carrying about 90 lakh passengers every day. Apart from generating revenue from ticket sales (traffic revenue), revenue is being realised from commercial activities such as renting of stalls in the bus stations, advertisements through mobile and mobile media.

According to the officials, the Telangana State Film Development Corporation (TSFDC) has come forward to take up construction in 15 place and also operation of mini theatres. The expected annual revenue from them is expected to be Rs 3.11 crore.

A team of officials would be visiting Vijayawada soon to see a mini theatre, which was already established at Pundit Nehru Bus Station. The officials would study its features and functioning and would take into consideration the positive aspects for implementation in TSRTC. This initiative will provide better theatre infrastructure across Telangana State for movie lovers and entertainment to the public besides garnering commercial revenue by TSRTC.
