Secunderabad: Local MP and former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday undertook a tour of the Secunderabad Assembly constituency going around Addagutta, Mettuguda and Tarnaka divisions. He interacted with local residents to know their problems. Later, Dattatreya directed the officials concerned, after chatting with them, to initiate action to solve the problems.

While inspecting the Road Under Bridge (RUB) work at Lalaguda Railway Gate close to the Addagutta-Tukaramgate area, the MP expressed ire at the slow pace of work. A member of the Railway Services Committee Venkatramani was present.Speaking to the media, Dattatreya recalled that when he was the Minister of State for Railways the proposal to take up the RUB was made. He criticised the former UPA government for putting the proposal on the back burner.

Later when he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 and held the Labour portfolio, he had held discussions with the Railway Minister in an apparent step to exert pressure on the government to immediately release funds for the road under bridge. The MP claimed that following his efforts the Railway Ministry had allotted Rs.13 crore. However, the State government had not only failed to release its share of matching funds, but also did not take up any road widening works, while adopting a negligent attitude.

He expressed distress over the government’s stand.Dattatreya alleged that while the RUB work in Railway lands was going at a brisk pace, that pertaining to the State government could not be taken up because of the delay in the distribution of compensation cheques to the displaced persons whose lands were to be acquired for the purpose.

He accused the State government of launching some bridge works keeping in view the Assembly elections held recently. ‘The government is not at all serious about the RUB work. This is clear from its attitude’, the MP quipped.Dattatreya stated that because of the government’s stand local residents were facing severe hardship. Hence, he demanded the TRS dispensation to release its share of funds and ensure that RUB work was completed by extending its cooperation to the Railway ministry.
