Tandur: District Education Officer (DEO) G Renuka Devi presided over a meeting with correspondents and principals of various private schools on safety and security measures to children on their premises here on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, she advised them to go through the GO Ms No 01 thoroughly as the new academic year 2019-20 would start from June 1.

She instructed them with various guidelines including no school should run without recognition (ETR). They should strictly follow the academic calendar issued by Commissioner and Director of School Education. All schools should obtain structural soundness certificate, maintain proper maintenance of fire extinguishers. They should properly maintain grills for safety of the children, particularly in verandas.

School managements were also asked to provide sufficient toilets as per enrolment and provide running water and safe and purified drinking water. They should properly cover water sumps, wells and manholes. These conditions should be strictly met, she told them.

They were especially cautioned to appoint trained drivers for school buses and keep the vehicles fit after approval by the RTA. At least one attendant should be present in school bus. The DEO also insisted on mandatory display of the fee structure on the notice board.
