​Hyderabad: The unanticipated decision to relinquish the posts of honorary president to the workers’ unions by senior TRS leaders T Harish Rao and K Kavitha in the last two days sparked a political storm in the ruling TRS in Telangana state.

A day after Harish quit the post of honorary president of Road Transport Corporation Telangana Muzdoor Union, Telangnaa Jagruthi president and MP Kavitha on Friday announced her exit from the post of honorary president to Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), Telangana Rastra Vidyuth Karmika Sangham (TRVKS) and Telangana Anganwadi and Helpers Association.
The two leaders have been the heads of these associations since its formation. Harish and Kavitha also played a key role in the victory of the elections conducted for the unions constituted as TRS affiliated bodies during the Telangana movement. Kavitha fought for the rights of the workers on the behalf of the unions and also succeeded in fulfilling the demands of recruitment on compassionate grounds in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and the regularisation of the contract workers in Transco and Genco wings of the State Energy department.

While a group of TRS leaders asserted TRS supremo KCR is planning to assign the two leaders some other responsibilities by relieving them from the honorary presidents of the workers unions, another group of leaders maintained that KCR is clearing the way to ensure his son and TRS working president KT Rama Rao held sway over all TRS affiliated organisations mainly the worker unions also which emerged strong organisations in Telangana.

Leaders said KTR wanted to strengthen further the TRS from village to state level. As part of the action plan, the TRS working president will also streamline the affiliated bodies mainly the workers unions soon. Since Harish and Kavitha are engaged in active politics and developmental programmes in their respective constituencies, KCR decided to relieve the two leaders from the workers union activities permanently. KTR will call a meeting with the union leaders to ascertain the functioning of the unions soon.
