The ‘Wind and Strings’ concert hosted by Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Hyderabad at Phoenix Arena, Gachibowli started with a mellifluous ‘Alaap’ in ‘Raga Jog’ by Jaywant Naidu on the Hawaiian Guitar and Phil Scarff on the Saxophone.This was followed by a rhythmic ‘Jod’ and a composition in the sixteen-beat cycle ‘Teental’. Phil Scarff is from United States of America and on an India, tour collaborating with Jaywant Naidu in South India.

Both musicians trained in North Indian classical music extensively ended ‘Raga Jog’ with a fast paced rhythmic ‘Jhala’ accompanied commendably by Sawan Kakkeri on the Tabla.The next composition was in Raga Hamsadhwani which is basically a Carnatic raga popularly performed by North Indian classical musicians.After this, the artistes performed a ‘Dhun’ which was popularised on the Shehnai musical instrument by Ustad Bismillah Khan.

The concluding piece was the Bhajan ‘Vaishnava Jan Toh’ commemorating the 150th birth anniversary year long celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.The artistes were honoured by Katherine Hadda, Consul General - United States of America in the presence of Srikanth Badiga, Chairman-Indo American Chamber of Commerce.
