Begumpet: The 18th round of Ghar ki Biryani contest was organised by The Hans India, at Shanthi Bagh Apartments, Begumpet, on Sunday, Chef Karunakar, a faculty member of Regency College of Hotel Management, started the event, showing residents how to make a quick snack ‘cauliflower vegetable tikka.’ He noted that now all the participants were highly talented, which made the contest very keen.

As their cooking talents were known to their family members only, such events offer a great opportunity to housewives to bring their talent to the fore. Many women showed their extraordinary cooking talents, surprising their family and the judge. “It is very tough for me to decide a winner in every competition. The other important aspect I found was that the housewives gave more importance to health, while laying equal stress on taste and aroma too,” he appreciated thus.

Sai Reddy, GM, The Hans India, said, “The Hans India is at the forefront of empowering women and throwing light on women-related issues. A full page is dedicated to fairer gender and their achievements in ‘Womenia’ which is published daily in The Hans India. Two pages of ‘Young Hans’ are dedicated to issues related to the youth.”

This is the 18th round and there are two more rounds to go, which will be completed by Tuesday. All the winners of the 2o contests will have direct entry in the finale to be held very soon and the participants have an opportunity to win prizes worth Rs 6 lakh at the final contest, he added.

Each participant was presented a gift voucher by Home Town and a liter of Goldivia Sunflower oil.
“We are able to taste and learn different types of biryani here. This event is an encouragement for women to step out and showcase their talent in cooking. It is not about the competition, and is more like a learning experience in cooking to all of us,” said Parvathi, a participant.“Not only for the housewives, but the event gave opportunities to youth like me to participate and learn many new things.

All the sponsors are showing a good gesture and giving gifts not only to the winners but also to all the participants,” said Anisha, another participant. The Sunday competition was held in vegetarian and non-vegetarian categories. While Manjula won the first prize in non-vegetarian category for making delicious ‘mutton keema chicken biryani, Sudha was adjudged the winner in veg category for cooking delectable coconut oil vegetable biryani.

“I’m very happy to win the competition. Usually some people like chicken and some like mutton, so I made a biryani by combining both of them, so that the biryani is liked by everyone,” said Manjula. “This competition gave me confidence in my cooking. I’m delighted to win it. This event has encouraged us to come out of kitchen and display our talent,” said Sudha.
