Hyderabad: Health Minister EatalaRajender wants every government hospital in the State be transformed with clean and hygienic premises to resemble that of "temple". People coming to hospitals should not be seen covering their noses with masks henceforth, he stressed, directing authorities to ensure that garbage and scrap are not dumped in the open in hospital surroundings.
Rajender who took over as the new Health Minister held a day-long meeting with senior officials and superintendents of major hospitals to get an idea about ongoing activities, working of the department and administrative matters, problems being faced etc.Emphasising on cleanliness in hospitals, he said that the notion of hospitals being termed as "haunted or bhoot bungalows" should go.
"The practice of keeping hospitals neat and tidy only when an important dignitary or VIP visits there, should go. It should be kept neat and tidy like a temple always," the Health Minister stressed. He also instructed hospitals to get any small repairs done at the earliest. He also wanted hospitals to return unused medical equipment to the department instead of dumping them in storerooms so that it could be put to use elsewhere.
Rajender directed OGH (Osmania General Hospital) authorities to vacate and shift the dilapidated old block within three months. It may be recalled that the medical staff and patients had raised their voice on many occasions following roof crumbling incidents becoming regular.Assuring that pending vacancies would be filled in the next five years, Rajender wanted officials and doctors to offer the best treatment with the available resources.
The minister dismissed the talk that the Health sector was not given importance in budget allocations."Of the Rs 5,000 crore budget if Rs 4,000 crore would go for expenditure, why can't Rs 1,000 crore be used for development works," he asked. The minister wanted hospitals having 100 or more beds to go the extra mile by taking up medical camps and activities to ensure better health of people in its jurisdiction. He informed that plans are afoot to increase 100 beds in ICU in NIMS, Panjagutta.
