Kukatpally: The E-bike, built by the students of Mechanical and Electrical department of JNTUH, will participate in ASIAN E-Bike Challenge-2019 to be held at Tekkali, Andhra Pradesh from March 1 to 4. The vehicle was built by the team of students under the guidance of Dr K Vijay Kumar Reddy, professor of Mechanical Engineering department, JNTUH. The project was undertaken as R&D project for which an amount of Rs 2,60,000 was sanctioned by the university.

The electric vehicle which is run by a BLDC motor and rechargeable Li-ion battery has a unique safety feature of unlocking with pre-stored fingerprint. The vehicle has a range of 80 km and can run at a maximum speed of 80 kmph. An android app has been developed to display its speed, range and battery status of the e-bike.

The students who built this bike said that it has commercial viability and can be manufactured for at cost of Rs 1 lakh. Further improvements can also be made to improve its speed and range, students said.
