Rajendranagar: The ecosystem of the PVNR Expressway, especially the elevation ramps under the bridge, have become a source of thrill for some crackbrained youth who are resorting to joyride on their modified vehicles with bursting sounds causing flutter on the road and posing a great risk to the commuters passing through.

This kind of scary joyrides from rogue youth seeking short time thrills have become very common these days on the route between pillars no 180 and no 235 at Attapur, that pass on via office of the NFDB (Fish Building), Dairy Farm X Road, Hasan Nagar, Sulaiman Nagar and Mantra Mall etc.

The ecosystem near the bridge creates reverberating high decibel sound. This high decibel sound from the engines and exhausts of modified bikes stays for quite sometimes as it echoes around the structure which has a specific design of hard walls and ceilings.

“Earlier the joyrides by the mischievous youths only came to notice at the time of low intensity of traffic, especially in early morning hours when the presence of traffic is almost none. However, these kinds of puerility are being noticed quite often including at peak times.

“I wonder why these incidents don’t come under the notice of traffic police, even though so many CCTV cameras have been installed at a distance of every few kilometers and more so at specific locations that might be helpful to trace out the trouble makers,” said Mohammed Abdullah a local resident.

“Already, the noise pollution has become a major cause of concern for the communities living in the vicinity of urban roads and major highway corridors. In view of increasing noise levels along the highways it has become essential to act tough against trouble makers who are unleashing their “killer vehicles” on the roads every now and then causing flutter and putting the lives of the commuters into jeopardy,” said Mohammed Khaleel, another local.

When contacted, CI Rajendernagar K Srinivas told The Hans India that there was no specific complaint as such with regard to risky joy riding. “If someone has the photo of the trouble makers or any video taken at the moment of the act, then we would be able to take action accordingly,” he added.
