Nampally: Traffic police on Tuesday held a meeting with the owners and operators of private water tankers and officials of GHMC, RTA and HMWS&SB at Traffic Complex in Nampally.

Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), interacted with the private water tanker owners and informed them the safety precautions to be taken to avoid road accidents in the city. While addressing the owners of private water tankers, he asked them that more than 15 years of old tankers should not move on the roads of Hyderabad city and if found such vehicles would be handed over to RTA for further action. The official urged them to install speed locks in their vehicles to maintain speed limits and vehicles should regularly undergo fitness check at RTO and shall carry fitness certificates. Before employing a driver, the owner should thoroughly verify their antecedents and monitor the behaviour of drivers regularly. He asked them to employ one helper (cleaner) along with each of the vehicle to avoid an accident when vehicle is maneuvering. All the drivers should possess proper driving skills and awareness of traffic rules and regulations on road safety. He further informed that traffic police would conduct awareness programmes for the drivers at Traffic Training Institutes at Goshamahal and Begumpet and in all 25 traffic police stations.

The officer requested the water tanker owners to avoid the trips during school hours in school zones and to reduce trips during peak hours. “It is observed that many water tankers are moving in the city without proper permission from authorities concerned. In this regard, a letter will be addressed to the revenue and water works authorities to keep surveillance on illegal water tankers,” he added LS Chowhan, DCP Traffic-I, K Babu Rao, DCP Traffic-II, Durga Prasad, L Balu, G Ravi Kumar and G Sadanandam, RTOs, Vijay Kumar Reddy, Director Revenue HMWS&SB and Mohan Singh, Chief Transport Officer (GHMC) and officers of Hyderabad Traffic Branch attended the meeting.
