Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday said that the Congress has uplifted the women in the country, and it was run by women for most of the time.Addressing a conference organised by Telangana Women Congress on the occasion of International Women Day, chaired by Nerella Sarada, he said that the party has provided the first woman Prime Minister to the country.

He said that the TPCC has given tickets to lot of women in the Assembly elections. He said that the Congress strived for economical and political advancement of the women. Uttam alleged that it was Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s cabinet which does not have a woman in the entire country. During the regime of Chandrashekar Rao and Narendra Modi the empowerment of women is undermined.

AICC secretary Madhu Yashki said that rising atrocities on women in the country have become a cause of concern. He said that former president of AICC Sonia Gandhi has given statehood to Telangana with a will of steel. Former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy said that it was the Congress which has provided right to property to women.

When former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru brought an act in this regard the RSS had opposed it. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that all should take an oath to encourage women participation in the governance. He said that equal rights to women were possible only through Congress.
