Officials told to get ready for Panchayat polls

Vizianagaram: Collector M Veerabrahmaiah directed the officials to be ready for the conduct of Panchayat, Mandal Praja Parishad and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency polls. The voters list was displayed in the villages and if anybody has corrections can approach the authorities concerned for corrections and inclusions, he advised. He convened a meeting with the mandal level officers, mandal development officers and Tahsildars at the Zilla Parishad meeting hall here on Thursday. He asked the Tahsildars about the public response on voters list display, in turn, they said that they received complaints about photos missing and goof- ups in names. Therefore, he suggested to the officials to prepare a foolproof voters list by the time notification was issued so that conduct of elections would become easier. He advised the officials concerned to convene a meeting with the Tahsildars, MPDOs and VROs to create awareness about corrections and inclusions in the voters list. Finally, onus lies on the RDOs to prepare a final voters list, he said. Collector would be the District Electoral Officer for Panchayat polls and Joint Collector, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer and District Panchayat Officer would be Additional Electoral Officers; RDOs will be the deputy electoral officers at the division-level and Tahsildars and EOPRDs would be assistant electoral officers at the mandal-level, he said.
