cm2Vizianagaram: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy stressed that all the programmes and welfare schemes introduced by the Congress government in the State were meant for the downtrodden and weaker sections, especially women.

The government would send notification for 60,000 jobs very soon, he announced. The chief minister arrived here from Srikakulam to inaugurate the Amma Hastam programme at the Gajapatinagar market yard. He inaugurated several stalls set up by the various government departments and viewed a photo exhibition.

Later, addressing a gathering on the occasion, he criticised the opposition parties for condemning programme as 'Mondi Hastam' instead of giving suggestions as to how best to implement the scheme. He lambasted the TDP president Chandrababu Naidu for criticising the government schemes that were beneficial to the poor and weaker sections. The padayatra by Babu is of no avail, he observed.

Stating that one unit of electricity costs Rs 5.20, he said that consumers need to pay only Rs 1.40 per unit. For the SCs and STs who consume less thatn 50 units, the State will bear the entire cost, he said. It is better to keep realities in mind while using power and try to save it, he cautioned.

The government is planning to increase the unit cost for BCs from Rs 65,000 to Rs 1 lakh, he said. It will bear the costs if they go abroad for higher studies, he added.

PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, Minister for Civil Supplies Sreedhar Babu, District in-charge minister Viswaroop, Vizianagaram MP Botcha Jhansilakshmi, MLAs Botcha Appalanarsaiah, Boddukonda Appalanaidu, Rajannadora, Janardhan Thatraj, Jayamani, Kollagatla Veerabhadrawamy, Vasireddy Varadharama Rao, DCCB chairman Mariserla Tulasi, former ZP chairperson Bellana Chandrasekhar, District Collector Veerabramaiah, JC Shoba were present.
