“Notwithstanding the fact that there was no quality at all in the developmental works like construction of roads and drainages, the authority is turning a blind eye for obvious reasons,” he said, referring to the re-laying of Waddepally road worth Rs 1.81 crore and drainage works in Housing Board (48 Division).

Warangal: With the instances of same developmental works getting repeated in the tri-cities to the fore, the Forum for Better Warangal president Pulluru Sudhakar has suggested that it’s time for the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) authority to wake up and put a lid on revenue loss.

As a result, these works are being undertaken frequently by the civic body, leading to loss of revenue, he said, alleging nexus between the contractors, engineers and people’s representatives.

To stop this, Sudhakar demanded, there is a need for constituting colony committees giving them the responsibility of overseeing the quality of works.

The committee members would point out lapses in the quality of works so that civic issues could be solved effectively, he said. He further demanded that no bills should be released to the contractor without clearance certificate from the committee.

This apart, the civic body should also use the services of retired engineers to maintain the quality of works, he said, suggesting the authority to display information about the estimated cost of this work order, contractor, engineer and other officials.
