Hanamkonda: The town-based SR Group of Institutions has announced the schedule of 15th edition of South India Inter-Engineering Collegiate (T-20) Cricket Tournament for ‘SR Champion Trophy’.

SR Engineering College Principal V Mahesh informed that the tournament will be held from January 3 to 11, 2017. The venue will be SR Engineering College (SREC), Ananthasagar in Warangal and SR International Institute of Technology (SRIIT) in Hyderabad.

Teams from different states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana will be invited to take part in the tournament, which assumed importance among engineering colleges, he said adding MIT, Pondicherry won the 14th SR Champion Trophy.

The information is being sent to all the engineering colleges in South India. Only 54 teams will be selected on first come first serve basis at league cum knockout stages in the tournament. The total number of players expected is 810.

About 110 coaches and physical directors of various colleges along with 20 umpires from Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) will also be a part of the event, Mahesh told The Hans India on Monday.

A cash prize of Rs 50,000 will be presented to the champion’s team along with winners, 1st runners, 2nd and 3rd runner-up trophies, individual medals, merit and participation certificates. Prizes will be given to best batsman, bowler, fielder and all rounder, man of the final match, man of the tournament.

The participating teams will be provided breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with local conveyance. The players will be accommodated at Youth Hostel, Hanamkonda. Officials, physical directors and HCA umpires will be accommodated at SREC and at SRIIT.

A publicity poster of the event is released at the SREC here by the Principal and others. The tournament will be launched by SR Group of Institutions chairman A Varada Reddy.
