Adilabad: Matka gambling is on the rise with each passing day as the matka mafia is giving out false hopes to people stating they would win huge amounts through gambling. As a result, gullible people are purchasing matka tickets only to realise later that their money completely was lost putting them in dire straits. They are getting addicted to gambling in the hope of winning next time which is making their lives miserable.

There are Matka dens near Tamsi Bus Station, Ambedkar crossroads and the RTC Bus Station in the town. The mafia ensures that only those who purchased tickets are allowed to enter the dens. In case any outsider dares to enter, he would be manhandled severely.

Matka gambling is of two types. One being closure and the other is bracket. A draw of lots will be taken at 12 PM and 5 PM every day. The prize money for the winner will be 10 times of the investment in the closure type. The winner in the bracket type gets double the amount that he invested. It is estimated that the matka mafia in the town is making Rs 60 lakh daily. The mafia is attracting the customers from Maharashtra too.

People from all walks of life including drivers, daily wage labourers and the government employees are falling prey to this dubious game. It is learnt that even some constables are asking home guards to purchase tickets on their behalf.

Those who fell prey to gambling were finding it hard to feed their families. A few of them have gone bankrupt while others are taking extreme steps like committing suicide.

People are worried as the police are least concerned over the issue. They have appealed to the State government to abolish matka business.
