Karimnagar: The State government is distributing Bathukamma sarees to the women as a unique gift, who participated actively in Telangana movement for achieving separate Statehood by displaying Bathukammas, said Finance Minister Eatala Rajender.

The Minister along with District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed launched the distribution of Bathukamma sarees at the premises of Manakondur village panchayat in Karimnagar on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the distribution of sarees cannot be compared with distribution of money as the former was related to values and traditions.

There is no festival in the world, which is celebrated by offering prayers to nature god except in Telangana. Here the people will pray the nature god with wide variety of flowers, that is Bathukamma festival.

“In the past, we use to gift sarees to our sisters who give us coconuts (Kudukalu) and take blessings from them. In the same manner, for celebrating the Telangana festivals on a grand note and to continue traditions and culture, the State government is giving Bathukamma sarees as a gift to the women present across the State,” Eatala explained.

During the Telangana movement, many women across the State participated actively with Bathukamma in their hands and played an important role in achieving separate Statehood.

Moreover, Bathukamma festival is a unique festival, which builds strong human relations. To strengthen the relations among the human beings the government is distributing sarees to women, he informed.

The State government was striving hard for protecting Telangana literature, culture and traditions along with celebrating the festivals on a grand note.

For celebrating the Bathukamma festival happily with family members wearing new clothes, the State government is distributing the sarees to the women, he added.

MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, State Cultural Corporation chairman Rasamai Balakishan, Irrigation Development Corporation chairman Eda Shankar Reddy, MPP Matangi Lingaiah, ZPTC Sugunakar Reddy and Sarpanch Shekar Goud were present along with others.
