Warangal: Leaders of different political parties and officials have paid rich tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on the occasion of his 127th death anniversary here on Tuesday. The TPCC former chairman Ponnala Lakshmaiah, district Congress president N Rajender Reddy, city Congress president K Srinivasa Rao, working president Rajanala Srihari, TPCC secretary EV Srinivas Rao, former mayor Errabelli Swarna, ex-MLA K Sridhar and others garlanded the statue of Phule at Mulugu Road cross in Warangal.

Speaking on the occasion, Lakshmaiah called upon societal members to follow the ideals of Phule who preached equality of humans and fought against social evils like child marriages. Phule believed education could do away with disparities in the society and made efforts in imparting education to all.

GWMC Mayor N Narender garlanded Phule statue and lauded the contributions he made for the empowerment of socially backward classes and their empowerment. He was a warrior, who fought for girl education and social equality, the Mayor noted.

At Kakatiya University, Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna, SDLCE Director Prof Ch Dinesh Kumar, Registrar Prof K Purushotham, professors M Sarangapani V Ramchandram, and G Sudhakar and others offered floral tributes to Phule.

The Vice-Chancellor asked the teachers to draw inspiration from Phule in imparting education to the students and make them academically strong. The SDLCE Daily Wage Employees Association president Shaganti Srinivas, its vice president U Ravi leaders A Sadaiah, Ghouse Pasha and others also paid homage to Phule.
