Hanamkonda: Large number of students and activists of Telangana Vidyarthi Sena, TJAC were taken into preventive custody by police across the erstwhile Warangal district in the wake of TJAC’s Koluvulakai Kotlata meeting.

The police have arrested the activists of TVS, TJAC, AISF, PDSU, BSF, BC-JAC, NSUI and others students organisations in Warangal Urban and Rural, Jangaon, Mahabubabad and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts on Monday. The arrested were taken to different police stations.

The BC-JAC state chairman Tirunahari Sheshu, BC Sangham leaders B Shyam, D Sathish, TVS activists P Ramakantha, L Umesh, NSUI activist A Karthik and others were arrested during early hours on the day and taken to Kakatiya University campus police station.

Speaking on the occasion, the BC-JAC leader Sheshu expressed serious anger over the arrests of the activists. The police have given permission to hold Koluvulakai Kotlata meeting at Saroor Nagar stadium in Hyderabad, but the district police resorted to arrests in a wrongful manner.

The State government, which promised to fill up one lakh jobs, failed to do so. The TJAC, questioning governments’ failure planned the meeting. But the government acted undemocratically and used police forces to prevent students and unemployed attending the meeting, he complained.

So far farmers, handloom workers and gold smiths used to commit suicides because of poor prices and due to lack of government support to them, now unemployed youth were committing suicides because of the governments’ failure in filling up vacant posts, he alleged.

During late evening hours of Monday, the leaders of District Bar Association and Legal Cell JAC have staged a dharna at Martyrs Memorial and burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, in protest against the arrests.

The Bar Association president Ch Rajendra Prasad, Legal JAC leaders T Jaganmohan Reddy, Gandham Shiva, Nalla Mahatma, advocates R Narsinga Rao, P Venkateshwarlu, Gattu Ravi, K Ramesh, AISF leaders Ashok Stalin, M Venkant Reddy, Veeranna, AISF leader K Chiranjeevi, BSF leader K Rajender and others shouted slogans against the TRS government.

They demanded that the police must release all the arrested activists immediately. They described the arresting of the activists as shameless act and violation of democratic rights of the public. Following High Court orders, the TJAC planned a peaceful Koluvulakai Kotlata meeting but the government created tension, they said.
