Karimnagar: A nation will develop when it is totally corruption-free, observed District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed. On the occasion of Anti-Corruption Week, the Collector, along with Commissioner of Police V B Kamalasan Reddy, paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi by garlanding his statue on the premises of the Collectorate here on Monday.

A rally was taken out with students of various educational institutions and they were made to do pledge to fight against corruption. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said that everyone must play a key role in building up a corruption-free society. India is one of the prominent developing nations in the world with plenty of human and natural resources and many industries.

As the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi said, only 40 paise is reaching to the people of the one rupee sanctioned by the government for the welfare of the people, due to corruption that is prevailing in the society, he quoted.

The money sanctioned by the government for the welfare activities must not be wasted. It must reach to all eligible persons. It is the responsibility of every citizen to create awareness among the people against corruption. All the government officials must play key role in reaching the welfare schemes to right persons without giving any scope for corruption, the Collector advised.

Commissioner of Police V B Kamalasan Reddy said that three types of corruption exist in the society - one is taking bribe, second is through weighing machines in the markets and third is cheating the people - which must be prevented in the society. The people must be aware of these three types of corruptions that are prevailing in the society to build corruption-free society.

Joint-Collector Badri Srinivas, District Revenue Officer Ayesha Masrath Khanam and Additional Superintendent of Police Sudarshan Goud were present along with other officials and students from various educational institutions.
