Warangal: The TRS government has been making committed efforts for the welfare of entire religious minority communities, noted Parkal MLA Challa Dharma Reddy.
He said the government has been coming up with innovative and effective schemes and programmes of the minority communities in the State. As part of such efforts, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has launched Christmas Gift Scheme in 2015, which was the first of its kind.
The MLA distributed Christmas gifts to Christians with poor economic background, at a programme organised at Gudeppad agriculture market in the district on Monday in association with Christian Welfare Society of Parkal and local pastors.
Christians in Damera, Atmakur and Parkal mandals were given the gifts on behalf of the State government. Addressing the gathering, MLA Dharma Reddy stated that more than two lakh Christians belonging to weaker sections in the State were getting benefitted from the gift scheme.
The objective of the programme was to ensure every member in the community celebrates the festival in a cheerful manner, irrespective of their economic background. None of the governments in the past have conceived such an idea, he pointed out.
He reminded that the government has also came forward to construct ‘Christian Bhavan’ for the benefit of the community members and also laid foundation at Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Sarvodaya Youth Organisation secretary Pallepadu Damodar, MPP G Mallikarjun, ZPTC G Sanjeeva Reddy, tahsildars Sunitha, Venkanna and Venkat, several TRS leaders and public in huge number attended the event.
At a similar programme at Bethestha Prayer Centre at Bhupalpally town, Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary distributed gifts to about 2,000 Christians.
