Visakhapatnam: The TDP leaders and workers paid tributes to TDP founder and former Chief Minister NTR by garlanding his statue at the RK Beach to mark his 22nd death anniversary here on Thursday.

The TDP leaders demanded Bharat Ratna for the late leader. TDP workers donated blood at a blood donation camp in the city, including party office. Minister for IT Nara Lokesh called upon the party cadre to conduct 300 blood camps with a target of 40,000 units of blood to be collected across the state to commemorate NTR’s death anniversary.

East TDP MLA VRK Babu said that NTR was an inspiring leader. His life is an inspiration to the people. Later, he distributed sarees for Anganwadi teachers at his party office.

West TDP MLA PGVR Naidu (Gana Babu) recalled that NTR had introduced Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme in 1982. He further stated that MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu wrote a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office asking for Bharat Ratna award for NTR.

South TDP MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar said that blood camps were conducted following a call given by Nara Lokesh to collect 133 units of blood whereas 147 units of blood was collected across the city and party office.

Anakapalli MLA Peela Govinda Satyanarayana said that NTR was a great leader who fought for pride of Telugu people. He had also strived relentlessly for the welfare of the poor and backward sections of society by introducing many schemes.

Andhra University Registrar V Uma Maheswara Rao and Telugu Nadu Trade Union Council (TNTUC) leaders paid floral tribute to the portrait of NTR at Andhra University. Speaking on the occasion, the Registrar opined that NTR remains in the hearts of people for ever.
