Hanamkonda: The district administration had been making efforts to place Warangal urban district at number one position in the implementation of development and welfare programmes, Collector Amrapali Kata said.

She hoisted the national flag and inspected guard of honour at police parade grounds in Hanamkonda on Friday at 69th Republic Day celebrations. Later addressing the gathering, she said with collective efforts of the officials of different departments the district had become 100 per cent open defecation free.

The district stands first in the State and at 17th place at national level in the construction of sanitary latrines under Swachh Bharat Mission. The district had won four national awards and Warangal city secured 28th rank in Swachh Sarvekshan survey last year, she said.

The Collector appealed the citizens in the city to actively participate in this year’s Swachh Sarvekshan survey and help the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) to secure a better rank this time.

Amrapali informed that the developmental works have been going on fast pace in the district. As part of the Smart City Mission nearly Rs 2,750 crore were being spent to develop Warangal as a global city.

Under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation an Urban Transformation Rs 500 crore and Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana Rs 40 crore was being spent towards the development of Warangal city.

Works have been taken up for the development of nearly 170 kilometres of highways with Rs 311 crore while efforts were on to develop 843 kilometres of roads connecting villages with mandal headquarters in 11 mandals in the district, she added.

Rs 450 crore was sanctioned for the construction of 2784 double bed room houses in Warangal city and of that 1,504 houses were under construction. In rural areas of the district 1,285 houses were sanctioned in 34 villages, Amrapali said.

Cash cheques of Rs 25.30 crore as bank linkages and Rs 10.29 crore under Stree Nidhi were distributed to self-help groups by the Collector. Meanwhile, the Collector’s trouble in reading the Telugu script during her 20 minutes speech raised many eyebrows.

ZP chairperson G Padma, district principal judge Tirumala Devi, DLSA secretary Anirose Christian, Commissioner Of Police G Sudheer Babu, Municipal Commissioner Shruti Ojha, Mayor N Narender, Joint Collector S Dayanand, conservator of forests MJ Akbar and others were present.
