Karimnagar: The residents of Katta Rampur under 27th Division on Monday lodged a complaint with the district administration for the removal of a cell phone tower located in their residential area, alleging that they have been facing ill-effects of the radiation emitted by it.
According to the people living in the vicinity of Gidde Perumandla Swamy temple, the cell tower has been a cause of worry to them since it was installed on the third floor of M Laxman Yadav's building in 2015. They said that the building owner and the network operator didn’t heed to their request not to erect the tower as it likely to cause radiation.
Further they alleged that neither of the party had taken consent of the neighbours. There is an anganwadi centre and playground within the close radius and it likely to cause health issues to the children, they said. Despite their representations to the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, the authorities didn’t take any action, they added.
“I have been suffering from headache and other problems due to the radiation and the buzzing sound caused by the cell tower,” M Shantamma, a resident said. Another resident S Rajaiah said that he had to make arrangements elsewhere for his daughter, who is pregnant expecting a child in a short time.
The residents submitted a memorandum signed by 63 persons of the locality in this regard to District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad, Pollution Control Board, TRAI, Municipal Corporation, Woman and Child Welfare wing and Human Rights Commission.
