Itihasas should be included in academic curriculum: former KU registrar
For the better future of students, Itihasas needs to be included in academic curriculum, suggested former KU registrar and retired Prof MV Ranga Rao. He stated that Itihasas helps the students to excel in their lives and handle day to day affairs of life in an effective manner.

He stated that Itihasas helps the students to excel in their lives and handle day to day affairs of life in an effective manner. He said Itihasa means ‘This has happened’, thus Itihasas were the stories, which really happened in the past and were not myths.
Ranga Rao addressed a gathering at Sri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple at Battala Bazar in Warangal, where Itihasa Prachara Samithi has organised sloka recital competitions on Monday. The students recited Adityahridayam slokas, associated with Aditya or the Sun God (Surya), of Ramayana.
Ramayana teaches about individual dharma while Mahabharata tells about one’s duty towards society and as well as gives life lessons. Both scriptures have a lot to teach on the qualities one should imbibe to evolve as a better person, he noted.
Ranga Rao further explained that by the recital of Adityahridayam slokas one could achieve better physical and mental health. While reciting the slokas, the students should first comprehend the essence of the slokas, he added.
He appreciated the samithi’s efforts in spreading the message of Itihasas among the students by organising sloka recital competitions. Andhra Balika Kalashala principal K Nageshwari explained that the recital of Adityahridayam involves scientific process and has beneficial effect on those, who recite its verses. She wanted the students to practice regularly to master the recital of slokas.
The samithi president P Srinivasacharya and its secretary M Ranganath informed that their main objective of organising the competitions was to educate the students about Indian traditions, culture and the epics.
An annual calendar of events has been prepared by the samithi to conduct programmes regularly. Nearly one hundred students took part on the competitions and the prizes to the winners would be given on Ugadi festival day, they informed.
The samithi office bearers G Srinivasulu, V Srinivas, T Ashok, Manthena Saritha, T Madhumati, M Sridharacharyulu, G Satyanarayana, Venkatanarayana, B Venkateshwarlu and others were present.
