Sircilla: The onus is on everyone to protect the ancient art forms, Collector Krishna Bhaskar said. Speaking at a meeting organised on Telangana PracheenaJanapada Kala Pradarshana as part of pre-Ugadi celebration on Friday, he said responsibility of preserving the art forms that are on the verge of extinction is on everyone.

“The ancient art forms reflect culture and tradition of the region, besides providing entertainment to people,” Krishna Bhaskar said. The art forms which form integral parts of our country have a special place in day to day life, he said.

He expressed concern over the future of art forms especially in the backdrop of modern forms of entertainment like television. “Invariably all the ancient art forms lost their patronage and it needs to be set right. Although the government was trying its best to promote and preserve the art and culture of the region, the need of the hour was a concerted effort by the people of all walks of life,” the Collector said. He appealed to people to extend their support and patronage to art forms.

District Libraries Chairman AShankaraiah said it was an effort to give a helping hand to the artistes. It may be noted that the event was organised by the District Libraries. On the occasion, artistes performed pallesuddulu, yakshaganam, dappubrundam, songs, mono action etc. District Public Relations Officer MamindlaDasharatham, fine researcher Vaddepally Krishna, writers Pathipaka Mohan, K Rani Prasad, P Ashok Kumar, J Shankaraiah, Laxman and Ramaswamy were present.
