Bhupalpally: The wife of a sarpanch, who plotted murder of a woman following her illicit connection with her husband, was arrested along with six others, here on Tuesday by the district police.

It might be recalled that Telugu Desam Party Kataram mandal women’s wing president Ramilla Kavitha (33) was brutally murdered at her residence in Kothapalli in the mandal during the night hours on March 11. The assailants have attacked her with sharp weapons killing her on the spot in the presence of her daughter.

The Kataram police, who launched a manhunt in connection with the incident, have arrested the main accused, Guggilla Sujatha and her accomplices Pasragonda Rajanikanth, Kokkamudi Ashosk, Kannuri Kumaraswamy, Madugula Jagadish, Duppati Mohan and ex-deputy sarpanch Chityala Chendraiah, informed the local DSP KRK Prasad Rao.

According to him, the deceased Kavitha was married to Ramilla Mallaiah of Kataram 16 years ago but was living separately at her maternal village Kothapalli following disputes between them. During the course of time, she developed affection towards her distant relative Guggilla Sagar, who is Mulug sarpanch.

They both were maintaining extra-marital affair since a few years. After learning about this, Sujatha fought several times with her husband Sagar and told him to stop meeting Kavitha but he continued his relationship with his lover.

Angered at that Sujatha hatched a plot to eliminate Kavitha. She hired her tenant Rajanikanth and others while agreeing to pay them Rs 5 lakhs after completing the task. Rajanikanth and Ashosk, with the help their friend Nuneganti Chiranjeevi alias Abhilash, have killed the woman.

During the course of investigation, the accused were interrogated and confessed to their crime. All the accused remanded to judicial custody while manhunt was launched to nab Chiranjeevi, who was absconding, the DSP Prasad Rao informed.
