In a suicide bid by a married couple on the banks of River Godavari, the husband died while the wife was admitted to hospital in serious condition.The incident took place at VIP ghat area at Kaleshwaram in Mahadevpur mandal in the district during the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased was identified as J Harinath (43) of Kompally village of Bhupalpally mandal.

The deceased was identified as J Harinath (43) of Kompally village of Bhupalpally mandal.

He and his wife Shyamala (36) were said to have attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. Harinath died on the spot while his wife found unconscious by locals and was rushed Mahadevpur government hospital.

In a suicide note found at the incident spot, Harinath alleged that they were forced to take the extreme step following harassment by his brother-in-law Ramu, whom the deceased accused of trying to separate the wife and husband.

‘My brother-in-law was harassing us for the past several days and it driven us to end our life. He also threatened to kill us, if we had not committed suicide,’ Harinath said in the note, according to the police. Mahadevpur police registered a case and launched investigation into the incident.

In another incident at Katrala village of Wardhannapet mandal, a couple died in a road accident. The deceased were identified as T Mahender Reddy (54) and Prabhavathi (44). Mahender Reddy was the deputy sarpanch of Kothur village in Rayaparthy mandal in Warangal Rural district.

According to the police, the car in which the deceased were travelling hit a road side tree while trying to avoid hitting a motorbike coming in opposite direction. Wardhannapet police booked a case in connection with the accident.
