Warangal: Rich homage was paid to social reformer and writer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his 192nd birth anniversary on Wednesday.

Several programmes were conducted by district administrations, social organisations and educational institutions across erstwhile Warangal district marking the occasion. Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary, TPCC former chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, TS Minority Commission member Bommala Kattaiah, TS Agros chairman L Kishan Rao and government whip B Venkateshwarlu were among those paid homage to Phule.

At a programme at Bhupalpally, Speaker Madhusudhana Chary told people to follow footsteps of Phule for the growth of the society. The TRS government was making committed efforts for an all-round development of belonging to backward classes of the society, he said.

In Warangal, Lakshmaiah garlanded the statue of Phule at Mulug road junction and urged public to go all-out in fulfilling the objectives of Phule, who made great efforts for the uplift of women by educating them about their rights and setting up schools for them.

At BSNL Bhavan in Warangal, All India BSNL Other Backward Class Employees Welfare Association Telangana president K Venkateshwarlu, BSNL PGM, K Narender, DGMs, SS Charyulu, Veerahanumanulu, AGMs Somamadhava Rao and noted eye surgeon V Srikumar paid tributes to Phule. At TSNPDC head office, the CMD A Gopal and other senior officials offered floral tributes to Phule.

At Indian Red Cross Society office in Hanamkonda, its chairman Dr P Vijaychander Reddy, state managing committee member EV Srinivas Rao, district committee members P Srinivas Rao, B Papi Reddy, T Vijayalaksmi, Ch Jayasree and others remembered Phule.District Collector Amrapali Kata, BJP leader Rao Padma and Congress leader Rajanala Srihari were among those offered floral tributes to Phule statue at Mulug Road junction.
