Warangal: The district Congress leaders have demanded that the State government procure the rain-soaked agriculture produce due to unseasonal rains. A delegation of the partymen, led by district Congress president N Rajender Reddy, visited Enumamula Agriculture Market in Warangal on Friday and interacted with farmers and the market committee chairman K Dharma Raju.

Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, Rajender Reddy urged the government to direct Civil Supplies Corporation and State Cooperative Marketing Federation to buy the produce. He also appealed to the government to ensure minimum support price to farmers while procuring the produce.

Rajender Reddy demanded that the government fix minimum support price for the agriculture produce like paddy, maize, chilli, groundnut, turmeric and others. The farmers who brought the produce agriculture markets across erstwhile district were left disappointed as unseasonal rains damaged the produce, he said.

After the produce was brought to markets the onus lies on the government to address any damage caused to the produce. Previous government led by Congress came to the rescue of the farmers by procuring the produce damaged due to vagaries of nature, the Congress leader said, adding that the same should be done by TRS government.

Rajender Reddy asked the government to direct traders to purchase the damaged agriculture produce.
City Congress working president Rajanala Srihari and TPCC general secretary Bakka Judson at a press conference in Warangal on Friday also urged the government to take the responsibility of procuring damaged produce by offering profitable price.

Besides the produce brought to markets, standing crops like paddy, maize, chilli and mango fields suffered huge damage due to unseasonal rains that lashed the district three times in recently. The government should offer compensation to the farmers who lost crops, Srihari demanded.

He alleged that produce at markets was damaged because of the negligence of the market officials who failed to ensure speedy procurement of the produce. The government should take immediate measures to offer succour to affected farmers, otherwise Congress would launch serious agitations, he warned.
