Khammam: The in-charge of the intelligence wing of ‘SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act Parirakshana Samiti’ Dr. Gali Vinod Kumar, said here on Friday that the Samiti was going to organise ‘Medhavula Mahasabha’ on Sunday at the Osmania University in Hyderabad to protect the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

The members of the Samiti released a poster and pamphlets in connection of Medhavula Mahasabha here on the premises of Kakatiya University Post Graduate College in Khammam.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gali Vinod Kumar said that the architect of the Constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar had incorporated the ‘Protection of Civil Rights Act-1955’ to prevent attacks on Dalits, tribals and the other weaker sections of the society. It was later amended as the ‘Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act in the year 1989.

However, expressing his apprehensions over the verdict given by Supreme Court in diluting the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act-1989, he said that it was against the interests of the Dalits and may result in increase in the attacks and violence on Dalits across the nation, he added.

In protest against the verdict given by Supreme Court ruling in the dilution of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act-1989 and for protecting the Act, a Medhavula Mahasabha would be conducted on Sunday at Osmania University inviting intellectuals from all walks of life, he informed. He urged the educationists and intellectuals to participate in large numbers to the Medhavula Mahasabha and to make it a grand success.

The ‘SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act Parirakshana Samiti’members B Venkateshwar Rao, M Prasad, D Vasanth Rao, Appa Rao, P Edaiah, Lakshman Rao, P Srinu, Shekar Shyam Babu, Ashok, Harish, P Kishore, Krishna, Gopala Krishna, Suresh, A E Shoban, G Venkata Rathnam and T Ramu were present along with others.
