Warangal: Commissioner of Police V Ravinder has issued orders invoking Preventive Detention (PD) Act against four members of an interstate gang that was robbing people by diverting their attention at public places.

It might be recalled that on April 16, Intezargunj police arrested four members, of a nine-member gang of Mailapatti, Kathur Mill Colony in Srirangam mandal of Tiruchinapalli district in Tamil Nadu, in the city.

The accused identified as Mutha Jnanavel, Madan Shakthi alias Satti, Chandru Kumar and Sundar Jagadishwaran are now lodged at Central Prison in Warangal.

Intezargunj Circle Inspector Ch Ravi Kumar handed over the order copies to the accused at the prison in the presence of jailor Narsimha Swamy, according to a police press release issued here on Saturday.

The arrested were accused of stealing a bag containing RS 1 lakh cash from the car of Devi Theatre's owner Bollam Sukesh Kumar on March 28.

On the same day, the gang stole Rs 2 lakh from a two-wheeler rider near Punjab National Bank in Karimnagar.

The gang members were arrested near Devi Theatre in the city with the help of CCTV footage.

The PD Act was invoked to prevent reoccurrence of such incidents in the future, the Police Commissioner said.
