protestWarangal: TDP state BC cell general secretary Gundu Prabhakar condemned the ruling Congress Party for power surcharge and power cuts in the state. He was addressing TDP protestors at Head Post Office in Warangal on Thursday. The protestors burnt the electricity bills en-masse and shouted t slogans against the State Government. Speaking on the occasion, he lambasted the Congress Government for its proposal to impose the surcharge of whopping Rs 13,705 crore on the power consumers of the State. He said that neighbouring states had hiked the electricity charges by just 10 percent while AP is blatantly hiking by over 70 percent. He said that introducing non-telescopic system replacing old telescopic system was aimed at taxing poor and middle classes to the extreme extent in the power sector. He said that with the faulty policies of the State Government, the entire electricity department in a state of ruins. He said that TDP alone would provide the quality power to all the consumers at cheaper rates if voted to power. TDP leaders Bayya Swamy, V Anil Kumar and others addressed the meeting held in the connection. In a similar protest by the TD leaders, senior TDP Anishetty Murali and others burnt the effigy of State Government on the power issue at Hanamkonda Chowrasta. They demanded Government to withdraw the proposal to tax the consumers with hiked bills supplementing surcharge.
