BANDI RAVINDER ailaWarangal: Elections to the local bodies in the State were due for more than two years. But now Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's government is gearing up to conduct the elections after successfully giving constitutional teeth to the SC, ST Sub-Plan and also inaugurating the Amma Hastam programme. Despite these efforts, many leaders from Congress were joining YSRCP and TRS. It may be noted that a large number of TDP leaders are also joining YSRCP. The political pundits are feeling whether the Congress party would dare to conduct the local bodies elections now or defer again on one pretext or the other. There is big question mark that whether the local bodies elections if held would be conducted with the electoral list of 2001 or 2011. After Y S Rajashekhara Reddy assumed office as the Chief Minister, Congress had gained significantly in the local bodies polls. It stood first followed by TDP in the district while TRS was in the poor third position. Now, as there were no elections nearly for the last two years after the term expired, the rule of special officers is in force leading to failure of the administration in tackling the public issues like water, drainage and roads. The scene of the district had changed as more municipalities added to the list in the district. Bhupalpalli, Parkal, Mahbubabad and Narsampet are officially designated as the new municipalities. The other major development is 42 surrounding villages were merged to make Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation. With these kinds of developments, how the political parties are going to fare in the polls is to be seen. Errabelli Swarna of ruling Congress was the Mayor of Warangal city while L Dhanvanthi was the Chairman of the last Zilla Parishad, Warangal. The Congress party fared well in the last general elections as both MPs of the district had won. One is Union Minister of Social Justice Porika Balram Naik from Mahbubabad and Sircilla Rajaiah from Warangal who got the Lok Sabha seat. There are migrations to YSR Congress especially from Parkal Assembly segment. Atmakur ZPTC Satyanarayana, Challa Chakrapani from Shayampet, Patti Vinod from Regonda mandals have been adding speculation to the raise of YSRCP as another force in the district. TRS had to test waters with how voters react to their constant promise that Telangana would be delivered time and again. Local bodies polls would be like semi finals for the finals, which are general elections.
