Warangal: Leaders belonging to Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) called all the workers to remain united to fight for their basic rights. Participating in the belated birthday celebrations of Communist veteran and former Chief Minister of West Bengal late Jyothi Basu in Hanamkonda on Sunday, speakers lauded the pro-worker leader.

In a meeting presided over by CITU district president Bandhu Sailu, state secretary P Bhaskar, the speakers said that several movements in support of labourers and workers in India and more in West Bengal were led by the veteran leader. Even after coming to the power, Jyothi Basu took the decisions and made laws that were workers friendly. Basu distributed the vast lands of the government to the poorer sections of the society, he added. Recalling the great fight by the Communist veteran in the freedom struggle, he said that present youth should emulate his character and his personality.

Lambasting the economic liberalization brought by the Congress government, he blamed that it was intended to exploit workers. The economic liberalization would benefit the affluent business sections. CITU leaders M Chukkaiah, Koyala Raju, K Yada Naik, Chakrapani, Bharathi, Madhavi and others participated in the meeting.
