Aditi Singh Sharma who has been rocking the tinsel world for over a decade – she in fact completes her first decade in coming February – has carved a niche for herself with many a soulful and sonorous voice as a playback singer in many a good Bollywood film such as Ki and Ka, Veere Di Wedding and the like. She has imbued her songs with a pop touch that is seeing her go places in her chosen field. The singer seems to have much of a verve still left in her and is game to experiment with various tunes and tones.
Giving an insight into what has brought her to the top slot, Aditi reminisces about her early days when she burst on the scene with DevD. “I was pretty popular in the rock circuit in Delhi and was doing rock shows and hosted a few award ceremonies, too. That was when I first met Ehsaan from Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy fame and, of course, redoubtable singer Vishal Dadlani. Ehsaan was the one who had shown my CD to Shankar and subsequently I was thrilled to get a call to visit Mumbai for my first ever recording High School musical 2. Then I sang for the movie Dev D which actually kicked off my musical journey in the Bollywood industry.”
The playback singer is on cloud 9 having made a mark for herself in Bollywood but had been thirsting to give more of her to her fans. This urge set her on the lookout for an opportunity to do her first ever single song ‘Aaja Mahi Ve.’ Talk about her first single, she beams and she says, “It is been received very wonderfully and I am very excited about it. There has been lot of support from the industry. I wanted to give out something of my own for a long time, but somehow things did not work out. Slowly things fell in place and I came up with this song. The video has two wonderful dancers Shantanu and Kurshika. I wasn’t sure how people would receive it but since the song is out there has been a positive response.” She finally did it – we concur with her.
Going forward, the rock singer informs, “I have a few film songs coming out and I am waiting for them to release. We would shortly be releasing our next single as well. There is so much happening between stage shows and film songs that there is a plenty of work that keeps me rocking, literally.”
Every person has an inspiration. Ask Aditi about it. She all humility as she says it is a long list: “I have many inspirations. I have come from an English rock circuit all the way to Bollywood. It has been a change of genre and language for me. I have been very inspired by Vishal Dadlani and Sunidhi Chauhan for a long time. Arijit Singh, Sonu Nigam and so many others to pen down. I feel everyone is doing such a wonderful job as singers and there is something to forward to in everybody and draw inspiration – and loads of it.”
Among the female actresses in the Bollywood industry, the Golmaal Again title tracks singer wishes to be the playback singer of choice for Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. She has already sung for Kareena and Katrina and has two more in her list to sing for.
Speaking about remake of the old songs, she shares, “I am sure it is working and I myself have sung the song ‘Oye Oye’ from the film Azhar. I am sure they are working and that is why they are making them. Music is a personal choice for everybody and there is no right or wrong. I just wish that there are more of originals as there is so much talent in the country.” “I couldn’t be more blessed, and I am very grateful for all the support I have got from the industry and all my fans,” she signs off.
