New academic year, new courses. With the political bustle settling in, the city which is the academic hub of the region has embarked on new targets to provide quality education to students.

Many colleges in Vijayawada have introduced new courses that are industry oriented

Vijayawada: With the political bustle settling in, the city which is the academic hub of the region has embarked on new targets to provide quality education to students. Earlier students had to leave their hometown in order to enroll in the courses, but this academic year things have changed.

For the upcoming academic year which will be the first ever after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, courses like BCom professional (banking and insurance) BCom logistics, and so and so forth, which make students industry ready have been introduced by many colleges. --

V Ravi, principal, SRR and CVR Government College said that they offering about 22 courses at the under gradation level and the administration urged us to come up with more courses at the post graduation level.

This year, SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala has introduced BCom Professional (Banking and Insurance) for its girl students. Students who passed intermediate in any stream are eligible.

Also PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science has introduced bachelors in business management (BBM), accounts and finance specialisations in the BCom honors and TTP (vocational). “BCom honours comes in with specialisation in finance and accounts which is on par with the MBA subjects. Students also have to undergo five week of training at the end of the second year, along with a project that has to be completed by the end of final year. This training helps them to gain practical knowledge and exposure,” Narayana Rao faculty, Department of Commerce, said.

On the other hand, KBN College has introduced BCom logistics and BSc in chemistry, computers. “These courses were introduced during the last academic year, but there was not much awareness on them. We are making an effort to create awareness among the students on these subjects this year,” said principal P Krishnamurthy.

The Andhra Loyola College which focuses on holistic development of a student has introduced BA in arts, music, dance, animation, journalism, audio engineering, photography, visual effects, advertising, media management and filmmaking. Principal, Kishore said that they are planning to introduce new courses which would be announced shortly.
