Hyderabad: The youth of the nation has the power to steer the country towards development. Today’s youth is not only ambitious about their careers but have been utilising their keen interests to uplift the society as well. The students of St Francis College for Women, who are part of the ‘Commerce organisation for Emerging Entrepreneurs’ also known as, ‘The COFFEE Club’, organised a programme ‘Rural Connect’ as part of their CSR initiative. The students took a road trip from Hyderabad to Seethampet, Warangal as part of their programme.

A total of 60 students from the college along with two faculty members were part of this initiative.

“We hired a private bus and we started from Hyderabad around 7 am and reached there in about three hours,” Bhavana Patel, a member of COFFEE Club said.

The students contributed and financed the whole initiative. In the first phase of the event the members of the COFFEE Club interacted with the rural farm labourers and got to know the general demography of the village. The labourers shared their lifestyles, their issues and concerns with the students. With the inputs from the farm workers the students gained a new perspective about economy and made them connect with it.

“It was a whole new experience. We got to know about their lifestyle and we discussed hygiene issues and gave them some tips about it. To connect with them and as part of our ‘Rural Connect’ initiative we avoided using phones for the entire day,” she shared.

After interacting with the farmers the students visited Mallikamba Institute of Mentally Handicapped and Associated Disabilities for the mentally challenged and differently-abled orphanage. The members of the COFFEE Club donated 25 kilograms of ‘Rawa’ and they also donated basic amenities such as groundnuts, cooking oil, soaps, biscuits, blankets and towels to the orphanage. The members connected with the children and spent some time with them at the orphanage.

“These kids do not get much attention from people. So we decided to spend an afternoon with these children. It was an overall enriching experience for us. We learnt many things from this programme,” Bhavana said.
