New Delhi: Next time when you login to the micro-blogging site Twitter, get ready for a surprised heart-shaped "like" symbol replacing the old golden star for "favourites".

Twitter has introduced this new feature hoping to engage its 320 million active users in a better way. "We are changing our star icon for favourites to a heart and we call them likes," Akarshan Kumar, product manager at Twitter, wrote in a blog post. "We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use. One can like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favourite," he added.

The heart is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures and time zones.

"The heart is more expressive, conveys a range of emotions and easily connects with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it," Kumar further wrote.

This is another easy way to connect with people and the response is positive, making a common language for our global community, the post read.

You will see hearts on Twitter for iOS and Android, twitter.com, TweetDeck, Twitter for Windows 10, and on Tweets across the internet.
