The national winners of the seventh and eighth edition of Tata Building India School Essay Competition got a chance to meet the Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, on 4th December 2015, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The national winners also got a once in a lifetime opportunity to take a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Launched in 2006, the Tata Building India School Essay Competition is India’s largest national school essay competition that has provided a platform for students from class 6th to 12thto express their thoughts and ideas on nation building.

Hyderabad: The national winners of the seventh and eighth edition of Tata Building India School Essay Competition got a chance to meet the Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, on 4th December 2015, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The national winners also got a once in a lifetime opportunity to take a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Launched in 2006, the Tata Building India School Essay Competition is India’s largest national school essay competition that has provided a platform for students from class 6th to 12thto express their thoughts and ideas on nation building. The 2012-13 edition was held in 10 different languages - English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Oriya, Telugu and Malayalam. In 2013-14, two more languages --Punjabi and Assamese --were addedtaking the total count to twelve languages. Each edition saw participation of nearly 3 million students across6500 to 7000 schools from over 170 cities.
The national winners across the two editions were also felicitated by the Tata group at a functionheld on the same day at the FICCI auditorium in New Delhi.Ronen Sen, Director, Tata Sons Ltd who was the chief guestat the event, awarded the young achievers with the coveted Tata Building India trophy and a laptop each(please refer to the annexure for details of the winners).
Impressed by the talent and the passion of the students, Sen said ““All the students who participated are winners. They make theirparents, teachers, school, city and the country proud…. The Tata Building India School Essay Competition has grown and reached out to many students across the country, especially in tier 2, 3 and 4 cities besides some villages…. This successful initiative isvery much a part of Tata Group’s DNA”.
Expressing her happiness on being one of the winners, Ushasi Bandyopadhyay, (winner for the English language essay competition from the 2012-13 edition), said “Participating in the competition has been a wonderful experience for me which helped me look inwards for inspiration.It has instilled in me a greater self-confidence and the outcome has been thrilling. This initiative taken by TBI helps young minds learn how to
come up with more innovative ideas for the development and betterment of our country and society, thereby creating a more enriched human resource for the future”.
Sharing her experience during the competition and excited by the visit to the RashtrapatiBhavan,MahimaSaxena, winner for Hindi language from the 2012-13edition,said, “The main purpose behind Tata Building India School Essay competition is to inculcate the spirit of nation building in students. This competition plays a very crucial role in the nation’s path of development. I believe that'Dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep’. Lastly, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Tata Building India for giving me a chance to meet the President of India.””
Every year the Tata Building India School Essay Competition identifies an inspiring and challenging theme for the competition to stimulate the minds of young students. The seventh edition (2012-13) encouraged young minds to express their thoughts on the theme of ‘Science& Technology for India’. In theeighth edition (2013-14) the students were asked to pen their thoughts down on the theme of a ‘Happy and Prosperous Nation’.
The winning essays were a compilation of impactful, profound thoughts which showcased the vision of the young minds of India today.
