The Innovation Summit is aimed to explore how innovation can help solve India’s key challenges with the help of disruptive technologies

Hyderabad: Career Launcher, India’s leading chain in test prep centres, held their second edition of Melting Pot 2020 here on Wednesday. Renowned speakers across the globe participated in the event to talk about innovation in research and need to invest in R&D.
Major Indian institutes like IIT, IIM, Vel Tech University and other industry stakeholders like Ashoka Fellowship, 361 Degree Minds, Centre for Development Education, IFIM, Hitachi, Samsung, IAN and Your Nest Venture were part of the conference.

The two-day summit helped in getting a glimpse of how innovation should be incorporated into discussions under the national agenda. Experts believe that innovation can solve India's challenges in Health, Housing, Education and Energy through lenses of IoT, Data Sciences, AI, Robotics, Block chain and other disruptive technologies.

It also looked at how the culture of innovation can be imparted through knowledge exchange between the industry and academia as well as between nations.

Manish Sisodia, the Minister of Education, Delhi Government, spoke on strategy to make Delhi a leading state by promoting research and innovation in educational institutions.
As per Indian Brand Equity Foundation, India’s share of global R&D spending rose to 3.53 per cent in 2015 from 3.43 per cent in 2014 & is forecast to be at 3.67 per cent in 2016.

As of March 2017, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) stated that India is emerging as a leader in frugal & demand driven innovation among various countries across the globe.

In May 2017, the central government introduced various startups intellectual property protection schemes to ease patent filing for startups & promote awareness & adoption of IP rights.

Moreover, under these schemes, the central government bears the fees of the facilitators for patents, trademarks or designs that a startup may file. Startups only have to bear the cost of the statutory fees.

As a part of the commencement speech, Satya Narayanan, Founder of Career Launcher and Chairman of MeltingPot2020, “The twin states of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh topped the list of Indian states for filing patents. According to Intellectual Property India Report, 2015, Andhra Pradesh recorded 532 patents while, Telangana recorded 459 patent applications, witnessing an increase of 25 per cent over the previous year.”

He further said, “While India is at its peak growth with the Government supporting a digital India, it is important to encourage research to put meaning to the available data. This summit aims to provide a platform to stakeholders who want to promote researches and share their experience of engaging students in R&D. “
