Hyderabad: “5S practices (Japanese management techniques) in the industry by its employees as well as in the society by its citizens, strengthens the Swachh Bharat and ZED (Zero Effect and Zero Defect) in MSME segment, the two major initiatives of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, said Ravindra Kalur, Promoter, SAI Japanese Management Center of Excellence.

Ravindra Kalur conducted a workshop at GITAM HBS MBA students on “Introduction to 5S & Concepts of Total Productive Maintenance”. He is Monodzukuri Jinzai Ambassador (HIDA, Japan) which is a position created in recognition for the person’s achievement in promoting Japanese management techniques.

Ravindra observed that Japanese management techniques are quite famous all over the world, for their efficacy in eliminating wastes in processes related to manufacturing or services.

5S is the name of a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: seiri (sort), seiton (set in order), seiso (shine), seiketsu (standardise), and shitsuke (sustain). The list describes how to organize a work space for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items, and sustaining the new order.

Participants were briefed on the implementation and control issues related to 5S practices through games, interactive sessions and presentation of video cases.
