The Department of Mechanical Engineering, GITAM Institute of Technology, GITAM (Deemed to be University), is organising a two- day “National Conference on Material and Manufacturing” begin on Friday.

Visakhapatnam: The Department of Mechanical Engineering, GITAM Institute of Technology, GITAM (Deemed to be University), is organising a two- day “National Conference on Material and Manufacturing” begin on Friday.

Prof. MS Prasada Rao, Vice Chancellor, GITAM, Visakhapatnam and PC Mohapatra (Director – Projects, Visakhapatnam Steel plant) were the chief guests on the inaugural day. Prof. MRS Satyanarayana, HOD, Dept of Mechanical engineering, GIT, convener of the conference briefed about the Department and the papers submitted for the conference.

The Principal and Dean of GIT, GITAM Prof. K Lakshmi Prasad addressed the gathering on the importance of the Material and manufacturing. He advised the students to gain some important insights from NCMM2017.

Prof. MS Prasada Rao, Vice Chancellor, GITAM appreciated Mechanical Dept. for organising worthy conferences. He also explained that inter departmental knowledge is very vital for an engineer with an example of a stunt used when there is an artery blockage .The operation requires a cardiologist and the manufacturing of the stunt requires a mechanical, chemical and a material science researcher, thereby explaining that expertise in a single branch is no more useful as every sector is interconnected and serves the nation.

Dr. Phani Surya Kiran advised that students must learn on upon their own interest rather depending on the teaching staff as he quoted,” not about who will let you, it is all about who will stop you.” Prof. Ravi Kumar explained the importance of advance material research. He also gave a brief introduction about the miniaturised materials and its applications.

P C Mohapatra (Directs – Projects, Visakhapatnam Steel plant) said about how India is the only country which can continue to develop as it has a huge work force of young students. He gave a brief about the materials and manufacturing and also explained how India is one of the top producers of steel and opportunities in energy plants.

Dr. D Siva Prasad and Dr. B Srinivas Prasad were organising secretaries. Distinguished guest Dr.D Ravi Kumar, Professor, IIT Delhi, guest of honour took part in the event. Students, delegates from various Institutes, faculty members and participants from various institutions took part in the conference.
