Hyderabad: Building Science Research Centre of International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad) will conduct a short course on building energy simulation from February 12 to 16. It invites applications from interested students.
Supported by Indian Green Building Council, ASCI, the faculty for the programme are Dr Vishal Gar, Associate Professor and Head of the Center for IT in Building Science at IIIT Hyderabad; Dr Ing Jyotirmay Mathur, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and founding head of the Centre for Energy and Environment at MNIT.
S Srinivas, Deputy Executive Director, CII, heads the Green building division, Abdullah Nisar Siddiqui, associated with United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) and PC Thomas, specialised in Integrated Building Design, using simulation tools to assist in the design and delivery of sustainable buildings.
This course addresses the skills and knowledge requirements for carrying out energy simulations for Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC). Since ECBC is mandatory for commercial buildings, reliance on simulation tools has increased in the recent past.
The Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), is an initiative of Ministry of Power, Government of India brought out as a first step towards promoting energy efficiency in the building sector.
The ECBC was developed by an Expert Committee, set up by India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency, with support and guidance from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and significant inputs from various other stakeholders such as practicing architects, consultants, educational institutions and other government organizations.
The course will cover intermediate level topics such as modeling chilled water and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and natural ventilation. It will consist of several tutorials and project to show compliance with ECBC 2017.
This course is relevant to Architects, Civil Engineers, HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and electrical consultants, energy auditors and green building facilitators/ consultants. Participants will need to have some prior basic knowledge in building Physics, whole building energy simulation, familiarity with building services especially HVAC, Interior illumination and Building energy codes such as ASHRAE 90.1, ECBC.
The course will include a book on building energy simulation (http://bit.do/simulationbook), soft copy of ECBC2017, and 30-day free evaluation license on design builder software. More details at http://cbs.iiit.ac.in/shortcourse2018/. To register
