Controller of Defence Accounts (CDA), Secunderabad is hosting the 7th All India Defence Accounts Department (DAD) Volleyball Tournament under the aegis of Defence Accounts Sports Control Board (DASCB), Delhi at Eagle Indoor Volleyball Stadium, 1EME Centre, Secunderabad from June19-21.
Hyderabad: Controller of Defence Accounts (CDA), Secunderabad is hosting the 7th All India Defence Accounts Department (DAD) Volleyball Tournament under the aegis of Defence Accounts Sports Control Board (DASCB), Delhi at Eagle Indoor Volleyball Stadium, 1EME Centre, Secunderabad from June19-21.
The tournament was declared open by the Chief Guest Sanjiv Mittal, IDAS, Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) & Chairman, DASCB, New Delhi in a glittering ceremony on Wednesday.
Eight teams (men) of CGDA New Delhi, PCDA (P) Allahabad, PCDA (O) Pune, PCDA (SWC) Jaipur, PCDA Bengaluru, CDA Secunderabad, CDA Guwahati, CDA (PD) Meerut and six teams (women) of PCDA Bengaluru, PCDA (O) Pune, PCA (Fys) Kolkata, PCDA (BR) New Delhi, CDA Chennai and CDA Jabalpur are taking part in the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjiv Mittal, CGDA said that the sports activities attract tremendous enthusiasm amongst the Defence Accounts staff members. "Sports improve physical ability and skills in the employees to do day to day work in the offices. Sports and games encourage team work, promote leadership and responsibility. Participation in sports develops self-esteem and self-discipline. Sports is also an important component of healthy living and enhances performance. Defence Accounts Department recognises the role of sports in enhancing its performance levels and promotes the sporting culture at all levels", he added.
Earlier, the Controller, T Rambabu, IDAS, CDA, Secunderabad welcomed the Chief Guest and the teams. On the occasion, the CGDA felicitated M Shyamsundar Rao, the recipient of Dronacharya and Arjuna awards, G Mulini Reddy, the Arjuna awardee and V Anjaneyulu, International Volleyball player in recognition of their contribution for the sports of Volleyball.
Principal Controller A.V. Rao, Controllers Y. Raja Reddy, K. Venkat Rao, M. Srinivas, Dr.JSirish Choudary and Shri Ande Poshetty, Deputy Controllers Siva Sankar Bandi, Ashish Yadav (DASCB Treasurer), Premsagar Meena, P Nivedita Rao and K. Lalbiakchhunga apart from Armed Forces dignitaries attended the opening ceremony.
Defence Accounts Sports Control Board was constituted in May 1996 with the objective to develop, assist and ensure correct conduct of various games and sports in the Defence
Accounts Department. Broadly the objective of the board is to act as an Apex body for control and coordination of Sports personnel and activities and to be an advisory body for recruitment of sportsperson. It also takes all necessary measures for inculcation of various nuances of sports in the workforce of Defence Accounts Department, as also organising and participation in various national sports events. The inaugural match (men) was played between PCDA (P) Allahabad and CDA (PD) Meerut teams. PCDA (P) Allahabad won the match with 25-15 and 25-19.
