David Warner was sent for scans after suffering a groin injury during the second One-Day International (ODI) between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday.

Warner, who tumbled in the field to save a single, limped off in the fourth over of the second innings. The opening batsman has given Australia their second injury scare in as many games after Marcus Stoinis suffered a side strain in Australia's 66-run victory over India in the first ODI on Friday. While the extent of Stoinis' injury remains unclear, it is understood he will remain with the Australian squad for the underway limited-overs series.

In the fourth over of India's innings, Shikhar Dhawan hit the ball for a single to mid-off, where Warner produced a dive to stop it. When Warner got to his feet, he clearly looked in immense pain. Australia's team physio ran onto the field before bringing back a limping Warner to the dressing room.

A few minutes later, Warner was seen getting into the car, after which a Cricket Australia spokesperson confirmed Warner had suffered an adductor injury and been sent to get X-rays, as reported by cricket.com.au. "A bad groin strain can take a long, long time to heal," said Fox Cricket commentator Adam Gilchrist.

India and Australia are scheduled to play four limited-overs matches (an ODI and three T20Is) in the next 10 days, while there is also only 18 days until the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 at the Adelaide Oval. The 34-year-old Warner scored a 69 in the first match and bettered that knock with a 77-ball 83 in Australia's 389 for 4 in the ongoing second ODI in Sydney.

Australia have a 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series and a win on Sunday will secure the series for Aaron Finch's side. Chasing Australia's 390, India are three-down, but they still have Virat Kohli at the crease, batting at run-a-ball 71. He has his deputy KL Rahul with him at the other end, batting at 12 from 15.
