Telangana Sports and Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud unveils mascot of the second edition of the event

Hyderabad: Sports and Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud on Friday unveiled the mascot of the second edition of India Open International Taekwondo Championship 2019 (G-1 Level) scheduled to be held at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 11 to 16. The Logo for the same was also released by the Minister along with SATS Chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy.

Boxers from as many as 20 countries, including United Kingdom (which first hosted the 1st Taekwondo Championship), Australia, South Korea, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Bhutan, Nepal, Syria, Afghanistan and others will be taking part in the six-day event to be hosted by Hyderabad, a press release said on Friday.

The international championship sanctioned by the World Taekwondo body will witness competitions from both men and women, including Cadel Junior 11 to 13 years age group, Junior 14-17 years and Seniors above 17 years.

Addressing the function, V. Srinivas Goud said: "The first edition of taekwondo International Championship was held at England and many other countries come forward to host the second edition of this Championship, but it's glad that our Telangana State has received the chance to host the championship".

The Minister assured complete support from State Government to make this event successful and asserted that State Government has always been in the forefront in rewarding cash prizes to the medal winners at national and international levels tournaments to encourage and support them.

Around 2,000 players of Cadel Junior and Senior Age groups will participate in the championship, the minister added.

SATS Chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy said: "With the support of our Chief Minister K. Chandra Shekar Rao and Sports Minister V. Srinivas Goud our State has been able to come up with the talented sportspersons from both urban and rural areas and also hope to see our State emerge as No.1 in Sports in the years ahead"

Sports secretary B Venkatesam, Sports MD Dinakar Babu, Secretary General Taekwondo Federation of India Prabhat Kumar Sharma, Nandi Tyres MD CH Bharath Reddy, and other officials of Taekwondo organising committee were also present.
