The world's largest online retailer Amazon opened a 10-acre campus in Hyderabad, its world's second-largest campus outside the United States.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan inaugurated the new campus.

It is located in the IT hub of Gachibowli, a 10-acre centre that can seat 15,000 employees. Amazon has around 62,000 employees working in the country. It will take care of the backend operations for the company's global business and technology teams.

The construction of this campus was started about three years ago.

However, this is not Amazon's first centre in Hyderabad. It started backend operations in 2005-06.

Also, the online retailer has three fulfilment centres in the city with more than 3.2 million cubic ft of storage space. Besides, it has two sorting centres in Hyderabad with 1 lakh sq ft of processing capacity.
