Apple iOS 17.1 update coming soon: New features, How to download and more
Apple is set to release a significant iOS 17 update, addressing areas of concern such as excessive electromagnetic radiation emissions and offering improvements to Standby, Photo Shuffle, and more.
Apple is developing the first major update to iOS 17, released with the iPhone 15 in September. Currently, the iOS 17.1 update in testing includes new features and bug fixes to improve the user experience. It will also address concerns about excessive electromagnetic radiation emissions from the iPhone 12, according to France's National Frequency Agency (ANFR).
Although officials stated that the update would be available on October 24, there has still been no word from Apple regarding the new operating system update. However, every time it is released, it is said to bring customizations to standby, improvements to Photo Shuffle, and more. Here's everything that's supposedly coming with iOS 17.1.
iOS 17.1: New features
Action Button Changes: Users of the new iPhone 15 series can expect action button changes in an upcoming update. If your phone is in your pocket, pressing the action button will no longer activate the camera, flashlight, focus, magnifying glass, and voice memo. However, certain features such as mute and shortcuts can still be activated even if the iPhone is in a pocket.
Customizable StandBy Mode: iPhone users will soon be able to enjoy the new StandBy mode features announced at the launch of iOS 17. According to 9to5Mac, users can turn their iPhones into smart displays while charging the phone in landscape mode. Similar to setting screen timeout on Android, iPhone users can choose from three options: Automatically, After 20 seconds, and Never. The night mode feature dims the screen and adds a red tint at night. It will also get a motion wake-up switch. However, this feature will only be available on iPhones with an always-on display, such as the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Custom Photo Shuffle: The new iOS update will bring more customization options to the Photo Shuffle Lock screen feature. Users can select photos from a specific album in their library rather than being limited to Apple's preselected categories.
Dynamic Island Flashlight Notification: The next iOS update will add a flashlight notification to non-Pro iPhone 15 models. This means that when iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus users turn on flashlights, you will see a notification in Dynamic Island indicating the flash is on.
Solution to Toggle 80 Percent Charge Limit: Apple's latest iPhones have a new "80 Percent Limit" feature that prevents users from charging their batteries beyond 80 per cent. However, many users found this feature did not work, and their iPhones were still charging fully. Apple has now fixed this issue, so users can finally use this feature to extend the life of their batteries.
iOS 17.1: List of compatible devices
All iPhone models that received iOS 17 will receive the iOS 17.1 update. These models include iPhone XR, iPhone Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone SE ( third generation).
iOS 17.1: How to download the iOS 17.1 update
To download the iOS 17.1 update, open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to General > Software Update. Tap Automatic Updates, then select Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates. Your iPhone will then download and install the update automatically
